Obstetric Ultrasound

An order from your physician is required for this exam. See elective OB ultrasound for Fun Pics. An diagnostic/medical obstetric ultrasound is used to evaluate the health, well-being, anatomy, growth, position of baby, amniotic fluid, placenta, maternal cervical length and other related structures. Depending on gestational age and position gender and other anatomy may or may not be determined at time of exam. An endovaginal ultrasound may be necessary to evaluate a early pregnancy or the cervix and placenta in a later pregnancy. A few pictures of your baby will be given to you during the exam.

To Prepare:

A full bladder is necessary for this exam. Please drink 4 (8oz) cups of fluid 1 hour prior to scheduled exam time. Do not empty your bladder until instructed to do so by the sonographer. Any prior ultrasound reports of this pregnancy are appreciated prior to your exam.
